The stock type 4 oil pump has very short gears and therefore not much flow. A type 1 pump will fit with slight modifications. The drive tang on the oil pump can hit the bottom of the slot in the camshaft. This picture shows how the drive tang can be shortened a bit for clearance. Longer 8 mm studs will need to be installed in the case for the new pump. There are cast iron pumps on the market but they are about two pounds heavier. Since I have spent hours drilling holes and otherwise paying attention to weight during this project, cast iron was not an option. |
